There are two vacant seats on Thimbleby Parish Council which can be filled by co-option.

Just in case you are wondering parish councils are local government representing the views of their community.  They are not connected in any way to the Church.

Thimbleby Parish Council may decide to set a precept each year which is the amount of money they need to raise from council tax and they decide how to spend it on the community.  They have a few things they have to do by law but they have discretion in many other areas and very often they work with other councils and organisations to deliver for their community.  Some things that the parish council does is maintain the street furniture benches, bus shelters, provide and maintain speed indicator devices, some local grass-cutting and pay grants to local projects. Decisions are made at parish council meetings when councillors meet to discuss the issues on the agenda and make decisions.

Join the parish council as a parish councillor if you are aged 18 and above and a British, Commonwealth or EU citizen and one of the following applies

  • Registered as a local government elector for Thimbleby on the current Electoral Register, or
  • Has during the whole of the previous 12 months occupied as tenant or owner of any land or other premises in Thimbleby, or
  • His/her principal or only place of work in the previous 12 months has been in Thimbleby, or.
  • Has resided either in Thimbleby or within 3 miles thereof during the whole of the previous 12 months..

You only need to satisfy one of these statutory qualification criteria but you may satisfy more if they apply to you.

You do not have to have any other qualifications or experience to be a parish councillor just an interest in helping and representing the community.
