Purchase from Elan City
SID in operation

Reports showing the results of monitoring vehicles passing through Thimbleby have been published on the parish council website.

Thimbleby Parish Council raised nearly £9,000 from council tax and grants from East Lindsey District Council councillors to be able to purchase three Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) over the past 4 years.

These three devices are now operational and being maintained.

The reports from the SIDs show that there are considerable numbers of vehciles passing through the community.

Thankfully, the average speeds are below or near to the 30mph speed limit at all three SIDs but there are still approximately 10 to 15% of drivers that drive too fast particularly at night between 10pm and 6am.  These are at risk of prosecution if caught.  There is some evidence that drivers respond to the SIDs by reducing their speed to at or below the 30mph speed limit as average speeds are lower for the areas being monitored by the SIDs.. The SID reports show that a minority of drivers just do not take care on the roads to drive within the speed limit of 30mph through Thimbleby.

The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership also send a mobile speed camera van to monitor speeds of vehicles entering or leaving the village for which drivers may be prosecuted if caught.

The parish council set up a Community Speedwatch group and needs more volunteers to help bring the average speed further down and help identify the minority that deliberately exceed the speed limit.

The SID data reports are located on the parish council website here https://thimbleby.parish.lincolnshire.gov.uk/downloads/download/24/speed-indicator-devices-in-thimbleby
