Thimbleby Parish Council – Community Noticeboard Policy

Purpose of the Community Noticeboard

The noticeboard is provided and maintained by Thimbleby Parish Council to:

  • Share important council information.
  • Promote community events, activities, and groups.
  • Provide useful non-commercial information relevant to residents.

It is not intended as a space for ongoing commercial advertising or policitical campaigining.


Principles

  1. Accessibility – The noticeboard should be available to the community on a fair and transparent basis.
  2. Relevance – Notices must be of interest or benefit to residents of Thimbleby parish.
  3. Respect – All notices must be appropriate, lawful, and in line with community values.

Rules for Use

  1. Priority of Use
    • Notices from Thimbleby Parish Council and other local authorities serving this parish take precedence.
    • Community groups, clubs, schools, charities, and voluntary organisations have next priority.
    • Local businesses may place notices only in line with the conditions below.
  2. Content Restrictions
    • Notices must not contain offensive, discriminatory, or unlawful material.
    • Political campaigning or party-political material is not permitted.
    • No private sales, “for sale” notices, or personal adverts unless approved (e.g. charity jumble sales, lost & found).
  3. Commercial Notices
    • Commercial advertising is not generally permitted.
    • Exceptions may be made for one-off community-relevant services/events (e.g. local trades supporting parish events, job vacancies in the parish).
    • Where permitted, these notices must be small (e.g. A5 size maximum), time-limited, and approved by the Parish Council through contacting the Clerk.
  4. Format and Duration
    • Maximum size: A4 (except official council notices which may be larger).
    • All notices should include a contact name/number/email.
    • Notices may be displayed for a maximum of 4 weeks unless otherwise agreed. Out-of-date notices will be removed.
  5. Approval and Removal
    • Parish Council reserves the right to approve or remove notices at its discretion.  The Parish Council will not be liable for replacement costs of items removed or any consequential losses that arise from that action.
    • The Clerk (or nominated councillor) will manage the noticeboard and ensure compliance with this policy.

Enforcement

  • The Parish Council will monitor the noticeboard regularly.
  • Any unauthorised or inappropriate notices will be removed without notice.
  • Repeat misuse may result in exclusion from future use.

Review

This policy will be reviewed every 2 years (or sooner if required).

Notice to be placed in the noticeboard

Thimbleby Community Noticeboard
For parish news, local events, and community groups.
Not for adverts or political and campaigning material.

These and rude, offensive material will be removed.
Max size A4, 4 weeks display or date of event if earlier.
Out of date or unsuitable notices may be removed.
